Imphal, September 20:
Working Committee of the Apunba Lup has taken serious note of the Electoral Roll Review process being carried out in four Assembly segments of Imphal East District in the face of the boycott call of the upcoming by-election to 18-Konthpujam A/C given by the Lup as part of the ongoing agitation against the prolonged imposition of AFSPA.
In a statement the Lup appealed to all the enumerators and supervisors who are engaged in reviewing the electoral roll in 4-Kshetrigao, 5-Thongju, 14-Yaiskul and 15-Wangkhei Assembly Constituencies not to take up the task.
It also appealed to the people not to co-operate with the Government in this regard, and said it is only a ploy to divert the attention of the people from the real issue.
Calling upon the people for support and co-operation in the ongoing blockade agitation along National Highways 39 and 53, the Lup warned the transporters against trying to ferry passengers and goods along Ukhrul-Jessami road.
Reacting to a remark made by Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh during the anniversary function of Editors' Forum Manipur today, the Lup categorically stated that the Chief Minister should not confused the problem of insurgency with the public demand for removal of AFSPA which gives unrestrained power to the security personnel and subjected the people to various sorts of atrocities.
The Apunba Lup also denounced the asserted of the Chief Minister that an agenda would be worked out before the representatives of the Lup held talks with the Centre on resolving the issue.
The Chiei Minister's assertion is an insult to the people who have been agitating for the last three months even to the extent of sacrificing lives for removal of the draconian Act, the Lup statement added.
