Imphal, September 20:
Corruption at high level and apathy of the Government is set to deal a crippling blow to the successful implementation of the Sarva Siksha Abhiyan.
Talking to The Sangai Express, a well placed source said that the SSA is a Central Govt funded scheme which has been introduced in the country with the primary aim of providing basic elementary education to young children.
Even though a total sum of Rs five crores had already been released by the State Govt last month (August) to the district authorities to set up the required infrastructure and for conducting awareness and (raining programme of the teachers concerned, nothing concrete has been taken up on the matter till today, said the source.
Sources also informed that chances of implementing the project in the near future is also very dim as most of the Govt schools have to be relocated or constructed newly to meet the guidelines laid down by the Central Government for implementing the project.
The project's guideline lays down that the State Government should set up one elementary school within every 1 km from an inhabited area.
Stating that the project is likely to run into trouble waters as the State Govt will not be able to provide one teacher for every 40 students as directed by the SSA guideline, sources said that State Govt's ban on recruitment of teachers have further complicated the implementation process.
