Imphal, June 12 2014:
The Affected Pattadars of Tiddim Road have raised a strong objection against the State Government's new initiative to acquire more land along the highway from Keishampat to Malom after a specified breadth has been acquired and all standing structures demolished along the particular section.
Addressing an emergency meeting at Keishampat Thiyam Leikai community today, Keisam Ibocha, on behalf of the affected pattadars, said that the Government's new step to acquire more land beyond the line demarcated earlier by PWD and Settlement Department is simply unacceptable.
Questioning the Government's motive to acquire more land beyond the line already demarcated, Ibocha asked whether the Government is implying that the demarcated line is erroneous or the PWD and Settlement officials who did the demarcation were illiterate.
Taking strong exception to the Government's new attempt to take over additional land without giving any prior information to the affected pattadars who are already bearing the brunt of land acquisition and demolition of house, Ibobi said that they would not remain silent this time.
The affected pattadars did not raise any objection when the Government demarcated a specific line for land acquisition thinking that it was in the interest of the State and its future.
However, if the Government crosses its limits, the affected people would be compelled to take on the Government with all available means.
No family can build a house at one go and the compensation given by the Government was far from being adequate.
The Government made it clear that the compensation given was for the land areas already demarcated.
It seems the Government intends to commit a dozen wrongs in order to cover up one wrongdoing.
Such attitude would not bring anything positive except unrest and chaos, Ibocha cautioned.
At present many of the families are living amidst the ruins and debris of demolished houses.
