The North East India communities residing in Delhi felicitated the newly elected Members of Parliament (MP) from North East region in the recently held Lok Sabha election yesterday at Vishwa Yuva Kendra, Chanakyapuri, Delhi.
Apart from the new MPs from the region, various dignitaries in the country's capital city attended the event.
Organised under the banner of North East Community Delhi, the felicitation event witnessed songs and music from various North East artistes, bands and choirs.
A regionally flavoured dinner was also thrown at the end of the event.
Meanwhile, according to the PRO of Nagaland House, New Delhi, Neiphiu Rio called for unity, understanding and oneness of Members of Parliament from the north east and suggested for conduct of a north east festival in New Delhi to promote a positive image of the region to the country and the outside world.
He made these statements while attending a facilitation programmes for the elected MPs from the north east organised by the North East community of New Delhi.
The Nagaland House's PRO said that Rio said that the north east has so much to offer in the way of culture, music dance, ethnic foods, etc.
He was of the opinion that a successful north east festival which will be attended by a national and international audience would create a positive image and attract the outside world to visit the north eastern region as tourists.
Anything is possible if we are one, he said.
MPs from the north eastern region attended the function and others who addressed the gathering were P.A.Sangma, Kiren Rijiju and P.D.Rai.
