MU honours its two literary luminaries

Manipur State Kala Akademi Awardees Prof Th Ratankumar and Prof P Nabachandra were felicitated by the English Literary Circle, Manipur on Wednesday at the Humanities Hall of Manipur University (MU) here.
Participating in the felicitation function, Prof NK Sharma of MU asserted people know the how the literary works of eminent writer like DH Lawrence brought changes in a society, likewise Manipuri literature has been making contribution towards bringing about social change in Manipur.
Reading literature can ease tension and problems and also it enhances the taste of life and love of society, Prof Sharma said.
He said MU is very proud of Prof Nabachandra and Prof Ratankumar who have bagged the State Kala Akademi Awards.
All the faculty members and students of the varsity should be proud of the two professors for their success in the field of literature.
Prof Sharma added that the details on the Awards conferred on the two professors will be uploaded on the website of the varsity.
Prof Kh Kunjo, Head of English Department, MU who attended the event, said translating works from one language to another is indeed an art which cannot be done easily.
He said difficulties crop up when the translator tries to understand the original script, but if the translator uses decorated words and adds more meaningful words, then the writing becomes beautiful to read.
Prof Ratankumar also spoke on the occasion.
He regretted that Manipuri society lacks appreciation on achievement of someone and maintained that someone's potential can be known by appreciating his or her innate quality.
Prof N Khagendra, former convenor, Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi and Prof P Nabachandra of School of Humanities, MU were also present on the occasion.
