Battle of Bishenpur commemorated

The Battle of Bishenpur, fought during the World War 2 at Bishenpur, the last line of defense for the Allied Force, was commemorated today at Yongoi Ninghtou Hall, Bishenpur Bazar, Bishenpur, Manipur.
The function was organised jointly by the Manipur Tourism Forum and 2nd World War Imphal Campaign Foundation as a part of the three months long observation of the 70th Anniversary of Impahl WW-II .
Laishram Lolindra Singh, Chairman, Bishenpur Municipal Council; Onkhalun Haokip, Associate Professor, Presidency College, Motbung; Neevaran Nongmaithem, Proprietor, Khuibo Tours and Travels; N Ibungochoubi, Vice President, Manipur Tourism Forum, attended the commemoration programme as the chief guest, guests of honour and president respectively.
Arambam Angamba, Co-convenor of the Organising Committee, in his key note address emphasised on the significance of organising the function and recalled the fierce battle fought during the WW-II .
Laishram Lolindra Singh stressed the importance of commemorating such event to educate the younger generation.
N Ibungochoubi during his presidential speech said that the State was a host to thousands of people from all over the world during the WW-II and the war's assets, heritage, cemeteries, museums, battlefields is drawing a large attention of numerous scholars, relatives of war veterans and war historians.
The commemoration of the 70th Anniversary of the Battle of Imphal was inaugurated on March, 23, 2014 and will be concluded on June 28, 2014.The Organising Committee will also commemorate the Lift of Imphal Siege/Milestone 109 on June 22, 2014 and Silchar Track on June 24, 2014 .
