Imphal, February 05 2023:
Lianda Folk and Classical Academy (a dance institute cum performing unit) celebrated its 22nd foundation day at the auditorium hall of JN Manipur Dance Academy today.
The event kicked off with 'pena yakairol' and a lighting ceremony.
Speaking as the chief guest, Gurumayum Dharmadas Sharma, Deputy Director, Department of Art and Culture pointed out the rarity of dance institutions that focus on providing dance foundations to young children and added that Lianda Folk and Classical Academy is one such institution.
It is an institution that works relentlessly to provide artists with a decent platform, he said.
He also commended parents who send their children to learn singing and dancing as extra curricular activities when children already have a jam-packed schedule.

Merely reading and writing does not constitute education.
Every child has inborn talents.
Pushing them in the field they are interested in and have a knack for will ultimately result in success, he opined. He also maintained that performing in front of a gathering helps in personality development and builds confidence.
This will help any child in their future endeavours, he said.
Addressing the gathering, Budha Chingtham, president, Cultural Workers & Activists Forum Manipur (CWAF Manipur) said that children should be enrolled in such dance/drama/singing classes, not with the goal of turning them into artists, but to aid them in future professional lives with the lessons learnt from these classes.
He also added that in other countries drama and theatre education had been incorporated in children's curriculum since the 1960s.Dr Pukhrambam Lilabati Devi, HOD (i/c) Department of Dance and Music, Manipur University pointed out that a large number of children have enrolled at Lianda Folk and Classical Academy.
The institute also has ample facilities for children to showcase their performances, she shared.
During the event, children of the Academy presented many performances including Thougal Jagoi, traditional group dance, Hari Riha classical group dance, Mao Naga traditional group dance, Kabui Naga traditional group dance and Tanum classical group dance.
