Imphal, February 05 2023:
Apart from formal education, children should be given opportunities and platforms to showcase their innate talents, said art and culture deputy director Gurumayum Dharmadas on Sunday.
Speaking as chief guest of the 22nd foundation day of Lianda Folk and Classical Academy held at the auditorium of JN Manipur Dance Academy, here, on Sunday, Dharmadas acknowledged the contributions made by cultural organisations and institutions in producing artistes.
He, however, said that there are only a few organisations or institutions offering grassroots classes to children, and Lianda Folk and Classical Academy is one of them.
Formal education is im-portant but children also need extra-curricular activities in order to grow up and become a better person.
They should be provided opportunities to showcase their innate talents, and platforms to hone their skills.
Parents need to think in this regard, he said.
Cultural Workers and Activists' Forum Manipur president Budha Chingtham presided over the function, which was also attended by MU department of dance and Music head, Dr Pukhrambam Lilabati as guest of honour.
