'Chirugi Khunung Eshei' released

'Chirugi Khunung Eshei', which is a collection of prose by Dr Haobam Nalini, including some penned by herself, published in four scripts was released in a function held at the hall of Manipur Legislative Assembly Museum and Archives, Old Assembly Road here on Sunday.
The release function was attended by PDA chairman and Keirao MLA Lourembam Rameshwor as chief guest, Sahitya Akademi Translation Prize awardee Laimayum Bi-rendra .Kumar as guest of honour and The Cultural Forum Manipur president Prof Huirem Bihari Singh as president.
Manipur University associate professor Dr Chirom Rajketan spoke about the book.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA L Rameshwor shared his observation that the book has been published in four scripts and languages namely Bengali, Chiru, Meetei Mayek and English, to cater to the readers choice.
He then suggested publishing the stories of Chiru chieftains along with stories reflecting the close relationship between the hill and the valley people.
The MLA continued that there are two Chiru villages in Keirao constituency, which have no thoughts about cultivating poppies and are, instead, engaged in honest work.
The drugs menace could be regarded as the second "Seven Years' Devastation" and as such, urged for collective efforts in fending off this evil.
Observing that the youth nowadays no longer have the habit of reading books at the library, Rameshwor also noted that people no longer hang out in open spaces to read a book.
Thus, he exhort ed young people to cultivate the habit of reading books while suggesting to provide books to old age homes for the elderly inmates.
