Final rites of VDF Premananda conducted

The last rites of VDF member Ningombam Premananda, who was found dead after he went missing during a poppy destruction operation in Phaisi village, Chandel district, were conducted with full state honours at his native village Thoubal Okram Maning Leikai on Sunday.
SP (Thoubal) Jogeshchandra Haobijam led police officers and VDF personnel of the district in joining the family members, JAC members and locals in offering floral tributes to the slain VDF jawan during the memorial service held at the local playground before conducting his last rites.
Mention may be made here that the JAC met chief minister N Biren at the latter's official residence on Saturday night during which the CM assured of conducting a judicial enquiry by a retired judge, providing suitable government job to the wife slain VDF jawan and ensuring proper education of his two children.
The CM also assured of fulfilling the JAC's demand of installing a memorial stone in recognition of Premananda's contribution to the government's War on Drugs mission, after which the JAC agreed to claim the body and conduct his last rites.
