Imphal railway station listed for world class standard

The Union Budget-2023 earmarked special fund for development of 59 world class railway stations in the North East under Amrit Bharat Station scheme with Imphal figuring among the said stations.
Northeast Frontier Railway will develop nine stations in North East region to world class railway stations under Amrit Bharat Station scheme including Imphal for which techno - economic feasibility studies for the stations had already begun.
According to an official of Northeast Frontier Railway, the Union budget earmarked Rs 800 crore for Jiribam-Imphal new line project and Rs 1,100 crore for Dimapur-Kohima new line project.
The total amount earmarked in the budget (2023-24) for railway projects in the North-eastern states is Rs 10,269 crore and 19 projects spanning 1,008 km worth Rs 75,795 crore are currently undergoing.
The total amount earmarked for the region in the present budget is five times the average budget outlay of 2009-2014 and Rs 300 crore more than the previous fiscal.
This will facilitate construction of new lines, track renewal works, traffic facility, road safety, bridge works, signalling, workshop modernisation and customer amenities, the official said.
Among the 59 railway stations to be developed to world class standard in the NE states, techno-economic feasibility studies for nine stations have begun.
The stations are Naharalagun in Arunachal Pradesh, Kamakhya and Silchar in Assam, Mehendipathar in Meghalaya, Sairang in Mizoram, Dimapur in Nagaland, Wangpo in Sikkim, Agartala in Tripura and Imphal in Manipur, the official said adding that altogether 452 rail flyovers and under bridges have been constructed in the region since 2014 .
The official also informed that preparation has been made to open 'one station, one product' at 32 railway stations of the region.
