Imphal, July 01 2010:
The proscribed KCP has observed the death anniversary of its leader Yendrembam Ibohanbi (also known as Baji Ibohanbi) as Black today.
Ibohanbi was killed in a gun-battle with security forces at Heitupokpi near Baruni foothills on July 1, 1995 .
KCP comrades paid obeisance to the late leader by observing two minutes' silence and offering gun salute at Chqs and Ghqs, conveyed a press release issued by the outfit's information and publicity secretary H Poirei.
Baji Ibohanbi's contribution in the liberation movement and his efforts to bring education to children of impoverished families in rural areas towards establishing an egalitarian society were recalled today.
Offering of floral tributes to late rebel leader was another feature of the Black Day observance.
Tracing back the genesis of the KCP, it said that after the demise of Lamyanba Irabot in 1951, followers of the late carried on the struggle for a separate political identity of Kangleipak based anti-feudal, classless society by setting up the Meitei State Committee.
Unable to carry on the struggle, Meitei State Committee died in 1971-72 .
But some members of the Meitei State Committee gathered again and formed the Kangleipak Communist Party in 1980, the outfit recalled.
Observance of the Black Day can be meaningful only by following the footsteps of Baji Ibohanbi and emulating his strong sense of self-sacrifice by working for unity under the party's ideology and political line, added the release.
