The proscribed Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) today observed the death anniversary of the founder Army Chief of KCP, Yendrembam Ibohanbi, popularly known as Baji Ibohanbi, as the Black Day.
The party observed the day at its Central Head Quarters and General Head Quarters where the party offered revolutionary gun salute and comrades stood in silence for two minutes in honour of the leader, H Poirei, Information and Publicity Secretary, KCP informed in a press release mailed to the press today.
The press release recalled that Baji Ibohanbi laid down his life in an encounter with the security forces on July 1, 1995 at Andro Heituppokpi near the Baruni hills.
Since then, the KCP has been observing July 1 as the Black Day, the press release said.
People offered floral tributes to the Late Baji Ibohanbi and lit candles in honour of the leader, the press release stated recalling the contributions made by the Late leader towards providing education to the children of poverty stricken families in the rural areas, green revolution by joining hands with the peasants, etc.
Poirei further recalled that before Kangleipak (Manipur) was annexed to India, under the leadership of Hijam Irabot, an armed revolution based on anti-imperialist, anti-feudal and a classless society was launched with the objective of maintaining a separate political identity of Kangleipak in 1948.However, when Irabot had passed away in 1951, his companions formed the Meitei State Committee (MSC) and carried on the struggle to realise the dream that people's leader Irabot had dreamt.
The MSC could not sustain the struggle for long and wound up in 1971-72, Poirei reminded and informed that many people who were in the MSC joined and established KCP in 1980 and continued the struggle for liberation of Kangleipak.
