Van Mahotsav observed at various places

A tree plantation drive was carried out at Kamjong Main Ground in Kamjong district in observance of Van Mahotsav today.
During the programme, Col Vikas Dubey, Commandant 42 Assam Rifles educated the public on the adverse impacts of deforestation to the environment.
Meanwhile, DFO Kamjong, SW Suisa urged the people to cultivate the good practice of forest preservation.
He mentioned that the annual target for Kamjong Forest Division is 1,20,000 saplings (both plantation & distribution) and appealed to the villagers to support the Department in achieving its target.
The DFO further stated that the mass tree plantation would also be held at Phungyar, Chungka and Somrei.
The programme was attended by DC Kamjong, Worshang Hungyo; Range Forest Officer, staff ; students and Youth leaders.
Similarly, as a part of the Van Mahotsav observance, Kakching High School (KHS) 1984 Matric Batch carried out a tree plantation drive along the 'Angang Chingjel' road.
Speaking on the occasion, joint secretary, N Mohendro Singh stated that the plantation drive was organised to spread awareness on forest conservation and to save the environment while adding that trees and forests play a very crucial role in maintaining the ecological balance.
Joining with the rest of the country, the staff and villagers of Song Song block led by Duna Duo, MCS, SDO/BDO, Song Song block observed Van Mahotsav by planting different varieties of trees including different fruit trees at its new Sub Divisional Office Complex.
Around 500 tree saplings comprising 350 cherry, walnut, Jamun and other local fruit trees were planted.
The plantation drive was reportedly carried out along with the staff of the District Forest Department.
