Ukhrul, December 09 2022:
The School Management & Development Committee (SMDC) of Paocham High school in Phungcham village under Chingai block has sought intervention from Transport minister Khashim Vashum in addressing various long-standing issues besetting the school.
In a memorandum submitted to the minister on December 8, SMDC convenor Khansing Pheirei drew the attention of the minister towards crumbling buildings of the school, absence of principal and acute shortage of teachers, and urged him to redress the same.
It mentioned that three of the four school building blocks, which housed 12 classrooms, are in a bad shape.
The rooms are on the verge of collapsing, with shattered and fractured walls and flooring that are beyond repair.
Moreover, the school has been without a headmaster for the last 20 years, the SMDC pointed out, while likening the school to a household without parents or a ship without a rudder.
The school is also facing acute shortage of teachers for various important subjects including English, Science, Hindi, and other at all levels of Primary, Upper Primary and Secondary, it added.
