Training programme with reference to U-Morok organised

Ukhrul, December 09 2022:
A one day training cum interaction programme on "Nematode pests of vegetables with special reference to King Chilli /U-morok and its management" was conducted at Sirarakhong village, L..MBlock, in Ukhrul district, Manipur today.
The programme was organised by AICRP on Nematodes in Agriculture, Imphal Centre under Tribal Sub-plan, sponsored by ICAR-Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New-Delhi.
Around 53 farmers took part in the programme.
The Principal Investigator of the project, Dr Ksh Sumita started with the introduction of the topic and why the training programme has been conducted in Sirarakhong village, pointing out that, root-knot nematodes have been reported for the first time from Manipur in U-morok, the need for proper education on nematodes is a must.
She also gave a brief description on what nematodes are, how it looks like, the difference between animal parasitic nematodes and plant parasitic nematodes as well as the importance of nematodes in the farming communities.
She also focused on the general losses in vegetable crops, the general symptom of nematode infestation which is quite similar to abiotic stress, typical symptom of root- knot nematode and its management.
Later, the infested wet preservation samples of king chilli, cucumber, tomato, brinjal, potato, amaranthus, pea, French bean were shown to the participant farmers.
An interaction session was followed by distribution of sprayers,
nematicides and neem cake.
