Nupi Lan Day was observed across the State and beyond today.
The United Manipur Muslim Women's Development Organisation (UMMWDO) observed the 'Nupi Lal Ningshing Numit' today at the premises of the Manipur Press Club, Imphal.
The heroic deeds of the Muslim women who fought alongside the majority Manipuri women in the second Nupi Lan of December 12, 1939 were remembered on the occasion.
Speakers of the function today urged historians to acknowledge the contributions of the Muslim women in the first and second Nupi Lan.
Chief Executive Officer, Waqf Board, Manipur Md Nejmuddin Khan attended the function as the chief guest while president of UMMWDO Anwari Noorjahan was the functional president.
Former general secretary, Muslim Advocates' Legal Service Org, Md Rabi Khan, Moulana Md Mudassir Nadwi, former editor of Imaleibak Md Rashid Ali, president of All Manipur Students' Organisation Md Farid Khan and president of Manipur Muslim Welfare Organisation Abdullah Pathan were the guests of honour.
A marathon race marked Nupi Lan observance programme at Moreh today.
The programme was jointly organised by Moreh based Nupi Khunai Chaokhat Lamjing Lup, Kha-Nongpok Apunba Nupi Lup, Minority Women Development Society and Muslim Women Development Association.
The main observance function was held at Ima-Kondong Lairembi Haraobung, Moreh.
The marathon race was organised in two categories�above 60 years of age and below 40 years.
The run was held from the office of Custom Preventive till Moreh Town Parking.
Other traditional sporting extravaganzas were also held at Kondong Lairembi Haraobung.
Leaders of various women organisations attended the observance programme.
Manipur People's Party (MPP) also organised the Nupi Lan observance programme at the Conference hall of the party office today.
MPP president N Sovakiran led the gatherings in paying fitting homage to the women warriors of the 1932 Nupi Lan, according to a statement.
O Jugindro Singh, Sr VP attended the programme as the chief guest.
Amongst others, P Jamini Devi, retired teacher, Y Bhim Singh, general secretary, MPP and K Krishnachandra Singh, general secretary (Adm) also attended the function.
MPP legal cell chairman Y Priyokumar delivered a speech on the occasion.
Other speakers of the function included Chandrakala Devi and P Jamini Devi.
All Manipur Muslim Womens' Cultural Organisation (AMMWCO) organised the 76th Nupi Lan memorial function today at Ghani English High School ground, Minuthong Hatta with Mumtaj Begum, president AMMWCO, Md Sirajuddin, president MSF, MA Wakil Alsar, president PSO, and KT Rahman, advisor AMUCO as presidium members, according to a press release issued by the president of AMMWCO.
Nupi Lan Ningshing Thousil Lup, Khwairamband Ema Keithel observed the 76th Nupi Lan Memorial Day at Khwairamband Market with a Nupi Lan Memorial race for Khwairamband women vendors.
The observation was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, Social Welfare Minister AK Mirabai and IMC Chairperson A Nimai Sharma.
The gathering also paid floral tributes to the brave mothers of Nupi Lan led by the Deputy CM.
76th Nupi Lan Day was also organised by Ramnogor Manipuri Chaokhat Khongthang Nupi Lup, Ramnogor Srimangol at Ramnogor Hari Mandir, Bangladesh today.
RMCKNL president Thingujam (O) Phajatombi, president of Meira Paibi Sangao Hamom (O) Binarani Sinha, president of Meira Paibi Tetoigao Adampur Bazar, president of Majergao Meira Paibi Thounaojam (O) Silpi Devi, chairman of IMA Bangladesh Khoirom Indrajit, executive director of ECDO Lokhikanto Singha, adviser of IMA Bangladesh Monmohon Singha attended the programme among others.
Fitting tribute was paid to warriors of Nupi Lan on the occasion.
