O Lukhoi lays foundation stone for Water Supply Augmentation Projects

Imphal, December 05 2020: Minister for Agriculture, Veterinary and Tourism, Oinam Lukhoi Singh today laid Foundation stone for Water Supply Augmentation projects under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) at Wakching Khullen Water Supply Scheme, Chongtham Kona & Mutum Phibou Water Supply Scheme and Bitra Urokhong Water Supply Scheme, Iram Siphai located in Wangoi A/C, Imphal West.

Speaking on the occasion, Minister O Lukhoi informed that the Government under the leadership of Chief Minister, N Biren Singh is committed to providing safe drinking water to every household of the State.

In line with this vision, these Augmentation projects, once completed, will successfully provide potable drinking water in all the households located in and around these villages namely Wakching Khullen, Chongtham Kona, Mutum Phibou and Iram Siphai of Wangoi A/C .

Lukhoi, also the local MLA of Wangoi A/C stated that with the increase in the population, the existing water supply schemes could not provide adequate drinking water to the present population of all the above mentioned villages.

Hence, upgradation/ augmentation of the existing Water Supply Schemes are required to provide safe drinking water to every household.

He envisioned that by 2022, every household should get potable drinking water.

Minister O Lukhoi said Village Water and Sanitation Committees have been constituted in all these villages to shoulder the responsibility of operation and maintenance once the project are inaugurated.

To complete the project at the earliest, he appealed all the residents located in and around these project areas to extend maximum support and cooperation to all concern officials of Public Health Engineering Department, Government of Manipur and manpower involved in the projects.

Stressing on the importance of roads, water and electricity as essential components of development, Agriculture, Veterinary and Tourism Minister, Shri Lukhoi highlighted the various schemes and projects taken up by the Government for the inclusive development of the state.

The installed capacity under upgradation of Wakching Khullen Water Supply Scheme will be 3 lakh litres per day to be benefitted for 1304 heads (as per 2011 census)/1563 heads (as per 2020 census) of 341 household.

Constructions of RCC Overhead Tank (1 Lakh litre), Aerator, and Pump House; Expansion of Raw Water Storage Pond; Construction of Angle Iron Fencing (around the Pond); Laying and fixing of Pipe line; Repairing of Settling Tank, Slow Sand Filter, Ground Reservoir and Chowkidar Quarter; Providing and Laying of deficit filter media sand; Procurement of Pump Sets and Pipes are the components of work to be taken up under this scheme.

Under Augmentation of Chongtham Kona and Mutum Phibou Water Supply scheme, 2830 heads as on 2014 AD (Chongtham Kona & Mutum Phibou) will be covered and the projected installed capacity are 1,80, 000 litres daily.

The particulars of Treatment Units to be constructed under this scheme includes Improvement of existing - Settling Tank, Slow Sand Filter and RCC Ground Sump; Construction of Step Type Intake with pump House, Brick Masonry Aerator, RCC Ground Sump, RCC Overhead Tank - 2.0 lakh litres capacity, Pump House, Angle iron fencing, Chowkidar Quarter, Masonry Chamber and Anchor Block and Up gradation of electric pump sets and pipes.

Situated at Iramsiphai Yangbi, the Augmentation of Bitra Urokhong Water Supply Scheme will cover 724 household (as per 2021 census) with 2709 heads as on 2041 AD (Iramsiphai both rural and urban areas) and the projected installed capacity are 1,70, 000 litres per daily.

The particulars of Treatment Units to be constructed are Improvement of existing Settling Tank, Slow Sand Filter and RCC Ground Sump; Constructions of Step Type Intake with pump House, Brick Masonry Aerator, RCC Ground Sump, RCC Overhead Tank (2.0 lakh litres capacity), Pump House, Brick Wall fencing, Chowkidar Quarter, Masonry Chamber and Anchor Block and Upgradation of electric pump sets and pipes.

It may be noted that Jal Jeevan Mission, is envisioned to provide safe and adequate drinking water through individual household tap connections by 2024 to all households in rural India.

The programme will also implement source sustainability measures as mandatory elements, such as recharge and reuse through grey water management, water conservation, rain water harvesting.

The Jal Jeevan Mission will be based on a community approach to water and will include extensive Information, Education and communication as a key component of the mission.

Executive Engineer, Imphal West Division, PHED, N.Sanjit Kumar Singh, concerned officials of the department also graced the foundation stone laying ceremony.
