Imphal, January 17 2022:
Taking serious note of terming 'Gaan Ngai' as the largest festival of Zeliangrong community by MoS for External Affairs RK Ranjan Singh, Kabui Samiti Manipur has alleged that this is a deliberate attempt to wipe out the Kabui community.
In a statement issued today, Makuningpou Kabui, president of Kabui Samiti Manipur, said 'Gaan Ngai' is the indigenous festival of Kabui and the term 'Gaan Ngai' itself is a dialect of Kabui community, which is included in the ST list of 1951 of the Constitution of India.
It is very unfortunate that a respected and responsible person like the MoS has very little knowledge about the festival and tribes of the State, he added in the statement.
In addition to this, the letter head of Gaan Ngai Celebration Committee caries the line 'Gaan Ngai: Indigenous Religious Festival of Zeliangrong (TRC)', which means that Gaan Ngai is a festival for the people following Zeliangrong (TRC) religion, he added.
This is totally misleading, said the Kabui Samiti and added that if this is the case than what happened to the festival of Gaan Ngai celebrated since time immemorial by the forefathers.
The Kabui Samiti asked whether there was a deliberate attempt to wipe out the Kabui community and appealed MoS Dr RK Ranjan to give a clarification on the statement he made at the 'Gaan Ngai' celebration organised by the 'so called State Level Gaan Ngai Celebration Committee' .
