In a gesture of appreciation for the expeditious legal proceedings that led to the sentencing of four persons, including two IRB personnel, to life imprisonment in connection with the gang-rape of woman chilly hawker, three family members of the victim today carried out social service at the office of Sessions Judge Manipur West in Cheirap Court Complex.
According to one of the victim's 18-year old daughter and two other close relatives who took part in cleaning the court rooms from around 10 am till 4 pm, their objective was to convey gratitude to all concerned who played an active role in ensuring that the culprits face the penalty they so deserved in addition to reposing confidence upon the judiciary system that the law will eventually take its own course of action.

Confiding that they were initially shocked upon learning that the family's sole bread-winner was subjected to inhumane treatment and her modesty outraged by the four persons, the trio however said they could not breathe a sign of huge relief on realising that the culprits would be paying a heavy penalty for disregarding human values.
Making special mention of Judge Salam Imocha Singh and advocate Ng Tejkumar for their tireless endeavours in ensuring that justice was delivered at the earliest possible, they hoped for similar support from the judiciary and the NGOs whenever women and children are victimised.
