Imphal, July 07 2013:
In shocking incident, one Gogon Naorem, a native of Tentha Khongbal Leikai, but presently working and residing in Hyderabad was knocked down by a speeding car July 1 while he and a friend were crossing the road at Banjara Hills, one of the upmarket commercial and residential hubs.
But the driver of the car did not stop to look back but sped away leaving Gogon seriously injured.
His friend escaped with minor injuries.
According to a statement issued by Maibam Hitler Singh, Chief Coordinator of Hyderabad Manipuri Society (HYMS), Gogon was rushed by bystanders to the nearest hospitals but since he didn't have a support system or an insurance policy, he was forced to be re-admitted at a 'cheaper hospital' in Secunderabad.
The condition of Gogon remains critical and he is in Intensive Care Unit of the hospital in coma since the day he was admitted.
The doctors at the hospital have kept him under observation.
According to the doctors, Gogon underwent severe trauma with massive internal haemorrhage on the right side of the brain.
His skull has been fractured at three different places and a surgery may be required at some point.
Over the past week, Hyderabad Manipuri Society (HYMS) and many well-wishers have been visiting the hospital and extended all possible assistances.
But the prolonged stay at the hospital has increasingly burdened the family back in Manipur.
Gogon's mother is a small time fish vendor while his father, who is in poor health, teaches a few students.
The inability to support their son at this current juncture has severely impacted them.
Three days ago, HYMS, initiated a fund drive to support Gogon and the response has been tremendous with various people from across different locations contributing generously and the first instalment was handed over to Rakesh Naorem, Gogon's uncle, who has travelled to Hyderabad to be with Gogon.
But the sad part is that the money thus collected is just enough to cover the hospital expenses for three days.
Therefore, HYMS has decided to continue the fund drive for treatment of Gogon and has appealed to all support, the statement announced.
It has also extended gratitude to all those who have contributed towards the cause of Gogon.
