Imphal, July 07 2013:
The National General Secretary of Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) Tapir Gao has alleged that the Congress-led UPA Government has misappropriated crores of rupees from the development fund of northeastern states for more than two years.
He was speaking to media persons at the office of BJP Manipur at Nityaipat Chuthek here today.
Tapir Gao further said the DoNER Ministry has been deducting 10 percent from the development funds of northeastern states and channelized the deducted fund into Non-Lapsable Central Pool.
However, the deducted funds are adjusted in 12 percent increment in annual plan outlay of the states, he claimed.
Only the Chief Minister of Nagaland has raised the issue of fund deduction to the Central leaders, while other Chief Ministers have remained mum over such sensitive issue concerning the development of Northeast, the BJP leader lamented.
He went to support the cause for implementation of Inner Line Permit System in the State, and added that the BJP has included the protection of rights of indigenous people in its election manifesto and hence the Party is in favour of implementing ILP System in Manipur as implemented in states of Nagaland, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh.
Tapir further highlighted that 1528 cases of fake encounters happened during the 10-year reign of Chief Minister Okram Ibobi.
Manipur ranks second next to Uttar Pradesh in terms of most number of extra-judicial executions in the country.
The BJP would demand a fair inquiry into such fake encounters staged by Congress Government under the shadow of AFSPA, he added.
The General Secretary also alleged that the Congress Government in the State is the 'master of scams' involved in several multi-crore scams such as Loktak Cleaning Project taken up under the bogus firm "K-Pro", teachers' recruitment, PDS etc.
Tapir termed the Food Security Bill as a political gimmick of the Congress Party to garner people's support in the coming Lok Sabha Election.
He said that the BJP would never allow the Congress Party to dupe common people and demoralize them with their anti-people Bills.
BJP MLA from West Bengal Rameshwar Chaurasia and State BJP President Thounaojam Chaoba were also present during the press conference.
They vehemently condemned the Congress Party for trying to pass the Food Security Bill with an ill ambition to persuade voters ahead of the Lok Sabha polls.
