Ponda, August 04 2010:
A team of Manipur police together with the Ponda (Goa) police have arrested three suspected Manipuri insurgents in Ponda, who they claim are wanted in connection with the blowing up of a bridge in Manipur.
While two were arrested on Monday, the third was picked up on Tuesday.
Ponda police sources said the trio were associated with the United National Liberation Front (UNLF) of Manipur and were wanted by the Wangoi Police Station in Imphal West district for attempt to murder and other unlawful activities.
They are presently in Ponda police custody and the Ponda Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) has issued the trio a transit remand.
The team of Manipur police is expected to take the trio to the North Eastern state within the next nine days.
Ponda police sources said Naorem Mohan Singh, 32, and Sayyad Rasid Ulla, 32, were arrested on August 2, while Sapam Mohan, 37, was arrested the next day.
Sources said, the three were staying with their families at St Cruz in Ponda since the last 3-4 years and were working as security guards.
While Sayyad worked for a hotel at Arpora, the other two were working for companies at Kundaim Industrial Estate.
The Manipur police team arrived in Goa on Monday and with the help of the Ponda police arrested the trio.
The Ponda police were not independently aware of the trio's criminal records, sources said.
While the two arrested on Monday were given a 10-day transit remand by the Ponda JMFC, the one arrested on Tuesday has been given a 9-day transit remand.
