Panic gripped the people and passers by following detection of an object suspected to be a bomb inside the office complex of Directorate of Education (University and Higher Education) which is located at the southern side of Raj Bhavan here today afternoon.
The suspicious object which was found wrapped in a plastic bag was detected at around 3.20 pm.
When explosive experts of the State Police Department arrived and checked it, it turned out to be a bundle of paper and metal scraps.
While the explosive experts were checking the suspicious bundle, the road running between Nityapat Chuthek and Keishampat bridge remained closed, leading to a traffic jam and vehicles fitted with radio signal jammer device was kept stationed in front of the Directorate.
On the other hand, a hand grenade fitted inside an empty fish can was found at the gate of the quarters of Dr Taruni Devi of Medicine Department, RIMS at around 12.30 pm today.
The quarters of Dr Taruni is located to the north of RIMS's mortuary.
Police have retrieved the hand grenade.
