In connection with the murder of Prof Md Islamuddin of Economics Department, Manipur University within the University campus on May 25 last year, CBI, which is investigating the case, has filed charge sheets against four accused persons.
The four accused persons against whom CBI has filed charge sheets in the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate on August 2, 2010 are former Library Attendant in Manipur University Th Shyam Singh, caretaker in Manipur University Teachers' Club N Indrakumar Meitei, W Jayanta Singh alias Dilip alias Lakpa and publicity secretary of KYKL Lanngamba Mangang alias Chirom Robert Meitei.
Taking cognisance of the charge sheet, Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal has issued warrant of arrest against W Jayanta Singh alias Dilip alias Lakpa and Lanngamba Mangang alias Chirom Robert Meitei.
The Chief Judicial Magistrate has also issued summons against Th Shyam Singh and N Inder Kumar for their appearance before the Court on September 1 .
According to a statement issued by the investigating agency, on the request of the Government of Manipur, CBI, on July 3, 2010, registered a case (RC 7(S)/2009/SC-III, New Delhi) on transfer of the Singjamei Police Station, Imphal (West) FIE no.109 (5)/09 dated 25.5.2009 u/s 302/120B/123 of IPC, 16/18/20 of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Amendment Act, 2004, 25 (1-B) Arms Act, 1950 relating to the murder of Prof Md Islamuddin of Economics Department of Manipur University.
As per the FIR Prof Islamuddin of Economics Department and former Dean of Students' Welfare, Manipur University was killed at about 12.15 pm on May 25, 2009 near the library of the University by armed cadres of UNLF and KYKL in collusion with AMSU and DESAM, the frontal organisations of UNLF and KYKL respectively, the statement said.
On completion of the investigation, CBI has filed the charge sheet against four accused persons.
However, CBI has been continuing further investigation under section 173 (8) of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973 to unearth the larger conspiracy of the case, the statement added.
