Wife of Leimakhujam Kokula, L Maniton has approached Director General of Police(DGP) with a representation to locate her husband who was apprehended by personnel of Maratha Light Infantry while they were returning in a passenger diesel auto yesterday at around 5.30 pm from Patsoi Lai Umang.
L Maniton, wife of L Kokula, in the presentation stated that while they were returning from Khwairamband Market in a passenger diesel auto from Wahengbam Leikai parking along with 5 male and 5 women passenger for home, the diesel auto was stopped by personnel of Maratha Light Infantry stationed at Patsoi Police Station yesterday.
Their auto was stopped by personnel of Maratha LI for frisking at Sangaithel road near Patsoi Lai Umang, all male passengers including her husband were subjected to body search and questioned the male passenger one by one and picked up her husband L Kokula by the personnel and whisked away from the spot in a gypsy despite her plea to set him free and his where about is not known, the letter narrated.
In the latter submitted to the DGP, L Maniton mentioned that meira paibi leaders who had visited Patsoi Police station to inquire where about of L Kokula were refused entry to the police station by army personnel present in the police station.
It also mentioned that around 10 women met personnel of Maratha Light Infantry today and inquired about the apprehended person, but they replied that they have not nabbed the said person.
The letter informed that they have lodged a written complaint about the untraced person nabbed by the Maratha Light Infantry at Patsoi Police station.
The letter further disclosed that an unknown person has called in the phone number of the Kokula's younger brother by the phone number of L Kokula and threaten to kill him with the charges that he has worked against them and cut off the line, it added.
The representation went on to state that apprehension run high on his killing at any point of time as cases of frequent killing of innocent public happen now and then and strongly urged the DGP to locate him.
The letter also pointed out that under Armed Forces (Special Power) Act, 1958, the armed forces of Union are not authorized to detain any nabbed person and they are supposed to hand over all arrested person to the nearest police station within 24 hours.
The letter alleged that in the present case, the personnel of Maratha Light Infantry have violated the provisions of the Armed Forces (Special Power) Act, 1958 .
