Imphal, July 03 2015 :
After due deliberation, the State Assembly passed six demands today amounting to Rs 2386,15,72,000 .
The demands tabled by Chief Minister O Ibobi were Rs 1197,18,84,000 for Education, Rs 146,58,04,000 for Agriculture, Rs 679,29,80,000 for Community and Rural Development, Rs 272,25,56,000 for Public Health Engineering, Rs 85,79,60,000 for Minor Irrigation and Rs 5,02,88,000 for Academy of Training.
Sharing his thoughts while discussing the demands, Education Minister M Okendro expressed regret over the uproar raised by students on learning about the Government decision to abolish Bengali High School which resulted in seven students breaking down.
The Government has been planning to abolish Bengali High School to make space for a Ram Krishna Mission school under all India school mapping.
Bengali High School has at present only around 30 students.
On the other hand, there is no school in Manipur sponsored by Ram Krishna Mission even though there are 2000 such schools in the country.
Against 2153 Government schools, there are 2.67 lakh students.
The amount set aside for annual maintenance of schools is just Rs 2.5 crore.
This amount is far short of the actual requirement though the State gets some assistance from SSA and RMSA.
Johnstone Hr Sec School was established in 1885 and it has already received the heritage tag.
The Government earlier tried to repair the school's library room but the plan was dropped considering the heritage tag given to the school, Okendro said.
There is no question of appointing regular college Principals.
Regular Principals were appointed based on MPSC's recommendations, Okendro maintained.
Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Francis Ngajokpa said that e-tender for PMGSY works are done in line with PWD norms and profiles of all contractors are examined minutely in the course of tender process.
Agriculture Minister Md Nasir announced that fertilizers for the kharif season have been stocked abundantly.
After the cut motions raised by Dr I Ibohalbi, K Shyam and Th Shyamkumar were withdrawn, the House passed all the six demands unanimously.
