Imphal, July 03 2015 :
Referring to the Government of India's enquiry for a report from the State's Chief Secretary on implementation of 6th Schedule in the State, MLA RK Anand has categorically stated that any form of arrangement which infringes upon administrative and financial functions of the Government of Manipur would not be accepted.
"We oppose the idea of carving out a new State or creation of a new State within Manipur", Anand said.
Implementation of 6th Schedule with or without local adjustment would be opposed tooth and nail, he asserted while questioning the meaning and implications of 'local adjustment' .
The Government of India cannot forcibly implement 6th Schedule in Manipur.
All possible solutions to the GoI-NSCN (IM) dialogue should be disclosed to the people of Manipur, demanded the MLA.
Any solution worked out between the two entities should not infringe upon the territorial integrity of Manipur.
Nor should it dilute the administrative and financial functions of the Government of Manipur.
The demand for inclusion of Meitei in the ST list may have political relevance with the demands for 6th Schedule and alternative arrangement.
There is no Constitutional safeguard for the Meitei people.
Perhaps this insecurity might have driven some people to demand ST status, Anand opined.
