Unknown gunmen fired several rounds at the residence of S.Munthuirend, President, Aimol Tribe Union Manipur at Aimol Satu Village under Tengnoupal Police Station ,Chandel at around 11.30 pm on Thursday.
Report said that some gunmen came and called out the President by violently banging the front door.
As the president refused to open the door some of them started firing several round of gunshots.
As the villagers heard the gunshots, they alerted the people by clanging the electric posts.
On hearing it the gunmen scooted from the village.
Speaking to Media, S.Munthuirend said that he suspected the gunmen to be cadres of UKLF.
UKLF is presently a signatory to the Suspension of Operations with state government and the Army.
He said the outfit had threatened him many times over land dispute with a neigbouring village.
He further added that earlier too, a captain of the outfit identified as Samual Haokip had threatened him to remain quiet over the land dispute.
He appealed to the authority to shift the UKLF camp from the Aimol area.
On the other hand, a woman from Aimol Satu clarified that the incident which occurred late Thursday night at Aimol Satu was a handiwork of former Aimol tribe's President S.Munthuireng following misunderstanding with her son.
Narrating how the incident happened last night, S.Yangnu Aimol wife of S.Mangi Aimol told the media persons that after dinner her son Sana Aimol went to a roadside kiosk for buying a pan where met his uncle S.Munthuireng who came along with some others and had a talk with them regarding the declaration of Aimol as a Naga against the wishes of the people.
At that time, one of the companions of S.Munthuireng identified as Jilneichung Aimol alias Chungchung who was on leave took out a weapon and pointed at her son's head.
However, the boy managed to escape from them after fighting back.
As soon as the boy escaped, S.Munthuireng raises an alarm by shouting someone tried to kill him and his companions fired several rounds from their weapons.
Later on, they came to our house and vandalized all our properties on the ground that my husband is a UKLF Cadre, alleged Sana's mother.
Meanwhile Mangi Aimol, husband of Yangnu Aimol who is a Unit 2 PRO of UKLF also told the media persons that Aimol tribe is not a Naga nor a Kuki and since time immemorial we settled in Manipur as an Aimol.
Unfortunately, S.Munthuireng former Aimol Tribe's President in collusion with some Aimol individuals who joined the NSCN (IM) declared that Aimol is a Naga against the people's wishes in some local dailies, he added.
After his declaration, there is no peace amongst the Aimol tribe and problem after problem arises since then.
Instead of realising their misdeed and seeking forgiveness, he accused UKLF whenever a problem arises due to his incompetent leadership.
The unfortunate incident of killing one devotee and injuring many others at Pallel Lailamthok ching is also a handiwork of S.Munthuireng and Ch.
Lolo Aimol, the then President and Secretary of Aimol Tribe who were working under the directives of Korsosong and Boithang, active cadres of NSCN (IM) for reclaiming the hillock.
At the time of the said incident too, they intentionally accused UKLF cadres of being behind the shooting.
However, their plan of blaming UKLF had failed as some of the devotees on the spot saw and identified the real culprits.
While appealing to all not to be misled by baseless propogandas and sinister plan of the two former tribe leaders, Mangi also said that no cadres of UKLF were present in the area and also not involved in the firing incident.
