Foundation day of EEVFAM to be held

Extrajudicial Execution Victim Families Association, Manipur (EEVFAM) will observe its 6th foundation day on July 11.Secretary, EEVFAM said that families of victims of extrajudicial killings will be coming from various corners of the state to attend the function in Imphal on this day.
Various personalities who have contributed generously in the EEVFAM case of 1528 extrajudicial killings in the Supreme Court of India will also be travelling from other parts of India to participate in the program.
EEVFAM further recalled that on this day in 2004, Miss Thangjam Manorama was brutally tortured, gang raped and murdered by some personnel of 17 Assam Rifles which triggered an unprecedented people's uprising against AFSPA.
As justice on the case is still a far cry the Thangjam Manorama Memorial Charitable Trust has been persistently organizing memorial on this day for many years, it added.
On this day in 1987, the most gruesome military operation code named "Operation Blue Bird" was initiated at Oinam village in Senapati District of Manipur.
The Committee for Human Rights (COHR), Manipur has also been observing this day as the "Meeot Meeneigi Mayokta Leppa Numit" for many years, EEVFAM reminded.
