Kasomtang to afforest Nayii Kaphung

Ukhrul, July 31 2021:
Kasomtang locality of Ukhrul in an ambitious move to regenerate Nayii Kaphung would afforest 15 hectares of forest land under MGNREGS'programme.
Speaking to the media person, chairman of Kasomtang Chonmi Raleng expressed that the locality has started afforesting Nayii hillock since 2020 through MGNREGS programme.
The whole hill range of Nayii has been declared as a Community Forest Preserve Area.
He maintained that Nayii is a recreational hotspot for town folks, because of the greenery and proximity to Ukhrul town.
According to Chonmi, 243 job card holders of Kasomtang have worked for 45 days and planted more than 10000 tree saplings through MGNREGS projects.
Tree saplings including wild apple, Jamuri, peach, wild cherry, olive, etc were planted.
The locality also appointed a caretaker to ensure that the planted tree saplings were properly nurtured and to protect the preserve area.
