Jiribam, July 31 2021:
The camp of 37 Assam Rifles at Multansingh Pradhan Bazar, Latingkhal Makhabasti of Jiribam district, is going to be shifted elsewhere with the higher authorities concerned directing that insurgency and other antisocial activities are under control.
However, locals of Latingkhal GP staged a sit-in protest at Multansingh Pradhan Bazar on Saturday, demanding that the camp should remain at its present location.
Speaking to media persons, Md Shahid Ahmed, president of NSUI Jiribam district branch, contended that even if the situation is presently under control anti-social activities of insurgent groups have not stopped completely, adding that removing the camp will encourage the insurgent organisations to openly resort to their illegal activities again.
He appealed to the authorities concerned of the Assam Rifles battalion not to shift the camp in the larger interest of the general population to protect the lives and properties of people from the insurgent groups.
