Imphal, July 31 2021:
Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has urged the government to release pending wages for contract/engaged staff who are being utilised in the fight against COVID-19 .
It was very unfortunate that health director issued a media statement maintaining that there is no pending wages for contract/ engaged medical officers, nurses and MTS staff who are currently being utilised in the fight against COVID-19 and the statement indeed was akin to rubbing salt to the wound, a DESAM statement said and asked authority concerned to release the wage instead of playing delaying tactics.
DESAM also urged the government to look into the matter seriously.
On the other hand, the DESAM statement said that people are not satisfied with COVID-19 treatment at government hospitals particularly at RIMS and JNIMS and alleged that poor patients could not get ICU beds in these hospitals while patients belonging to wealthy families could get ICU beds easily.
DESAM will start keeping vigil at government hospitals particularly in the two said hospitals, the statement added.
Though the government has set up several oxygen plants, patients still face trouble in getting oxygen cylinder and sometimes they have to wait for an hour or half, the DESAM statement said and expressed concern over medical students giving treatment to COVID-19 patients while most of the senior doctors and professors skip treatment of COVID-19 patients.
It also appealed to chief minister N Biren Singh who is holding the health portfolio to look into the current mode of treatment of COVID-19 patients in government hospitals.
