Training programme on fire safety begins

While conceding that Manipur Fire Service department is bereft of modern equipment and facing manpower shortage, its joint director N Nabachandra said upgrade of the department including purchase of modern fire-fighting equipment would be processed as and when funds under the 15th Finance Commission is received.
Speaking at the opening function of a weeklong fire and life safety training programme held at Manipur Fire Service training hall, the joint director informed that assembly of 11 fire tender vehicles is underway in New Delhi.
While stating that even if most of the hospitals and hotels in Imphal have fire safety equipment their staffers lack proper knowledge on using them, he stressed the need for hotel and hospital authorities to extend basic training to its personnel on using the equipment available before arrival of the professionals.
The programme was also attended by Manipur Fire Service director Themthing Ngasangva, department officials and personnel and representatives of different hotels and hospitals operating in Imphal areas.
It is also informed that a 15-member team of the department is involved in the on-going search and rescue operation at the Makhuam village landslide site in Noney district.
