Upward tick continues with nine new cases

The number of Covid active cases in Manipur has risen to 49 as nine persons - eight from Imphal West and one from Thoubal tested positive for the virus in the last 24 hours.
The overall single day positivity rate updated by the Covid Common Control Room was 5.8 per cent as nine out of 155 samples sent for confirmation returned positive in the period, but the test positivity rate (TPR) is considerably high for both the two districts where fresh Covid cases have been detected.
Imphal West registered a TPR of 12.1 per cent as 8 out of 66 samples tested positive while the figure for Thoubal was 9.1 per cent (one out 11 samples tested positive) .
Undoubtedly, the State has been witnessing a fresh surge of COVID-19 as active caseload here has increased from nil on May 20 last to 14 on June 27 and 49 on July 4 .
No Covid deaths were reported in the last 24 hours.
With this figure, the total count of Covid cases in Manipur has risen to 1,37,306 including 5,014 CAPF personnel of which 1,35,137 have recovered while 2120 have died due to Covid complication.
Three persons were discharged today from Home Isolation and with it the recovery rate stands at 98.42 per cent.
All the Covid beds at JNIMS (14) and RIMS (47) are unoccupied.

Yesterday, 29 D-type and 14 B-type oxygen cylinders were distributed to different health care facilities and in the same period 128 Covid vaccine doses were administered.
The State has so far vaccinated 61.98 per cent of its eligible population against Covid with the first dose while 53.21 per cent have taken the second dose.
