MoS Dr Subhas emphasises on holistic education

Holistic education is of utmost importance for overall development of students today, said union minister of state for Education Dr Subhas Sarkar during a review meeting with officials and professors of the Manipur University at the university campus on Monday.
The union minister, who is on a four-day state visit since July 2, held the review meeting before an interaction session with the students of the university.
During the review meeting that mainly focused on the implementation of National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, Dr Subhas invited suggestions and comments from the professors of MU for the smooth implementation of new education policy of the country.
He observed that holistic education is more important today than ever before because of the ease with which students can access information.
Holistic education focuses immensely on each student discovering their unique pathway.
The development of emotional, intellectual, physical, spiritual and social aspects of the student is the main focus areas of holistic education, the MoS said.
At the same time to fix the target of students is equally important, he said and urged the professors present to focus on introducing holistic education to the students.
Dr Subhas added that NEP 2020 aims to strengthen the new learning paradigm by adopting new education technologies or developing available in-house skills.
The acquired knowledge of students will help them establish values as well as contribute to the nation and the world's development, he observed and stressed on inclusion of Indian knowledge systems in teaching and learning for comprehensive understanding of the aim of education.
Registrar of MU Prof W Chanbabu, who initiated the review meeting, presented a brief history of Manipur University which is now functioning under the union ministry of Human Resource Development.
He also informed that the university is preparing to start implementation of the NEP from the 2022-23 academic session.
Education minister Th Basantakumar and MU vice chancellor professor N Lokendra Singh also took part in the review meeting.
The VC stressed on the need for expansion of the present campus or opening of a second campus of the university so that it accommodates more infrastructures.
After the review meeting, the union MoS for education also interacted with the students of MU at the court hall of the university.
