Plantation drive conducted to forge friendship

Senapati, July 04 2022: Project FAB-MANEDA organised a mass tree plantation drive in commemoration of the 73rd Van Mahotsav Celebration, 2022 in all its project villages with the youth of the project villages on Monday.

The plantation drive was carried out under the theme, "Celebrating friendship through tree plantation".

The organisers said that they want to encourage friendship among the villages and tribes through tree plantation.

The Project FAB-MANEDA also introduced "Mangai" which is a culture practiced by the forefathers, a culture to keep friends in other village and share brotherhood in times of war and conflicts through the plantation.

In his keynote address, MANEDA secretary T Peter Rangnamei stated that the barriers, tribalism and community-wise division are familiar among people in the state.

Through God's grace, the need to join hands together and live together as one people has gradually been realised by people and the mass tree plantation is part of sharing the bond of relationship among the people, he said.

Peter Rangnamei also announced that MANEDA will go for inspection and declared to award cash prize to the village where most tree saplings are alive.

The participating youths were divided into different groups and each group was sent to other village for the plantation.

The trees planted in other village will remain as the bond for the other village even if one passes away one day.

About 5-6 youths each from different villages were reportedly grouped together for the mass tree plantation in and around Senapati.

Senapati divisional forest officer, D John Sha called it a good initiative that brought people from different villages together through tree plantation, which he said, is a service to humanity.

The DFO also highlighted the importance of trees and forest to get fresh air, good water, good soil and bio-products for livelihood.

He then explained to all participants how to plant trees.

Later, the Senapati DFO flagged off the plantation drive.

The participants divided into 8 different groups plant ed tree saplings such as oak, gul mohar, walnut, cherry and black berry in 14 different villages of Kathikho Karong, Mao Karong, Namgailong, New Eden, Zingso, Katomei Centre, Taphou Ngaihang, Taphou Namthan, Onaeme Taphou, Liangmei Taphou, Mayangkhang, Mayangkhang Khunou, Hengbung and Taphou Kuki.

Meanwhile, T/Khullen and M Ningthoupham were report edly left out for the day due to bad road condition.

The FAB-MANEDA expressed gratitude to Senapati DFO D John Sha for providing 2100 saplings of various kinds.

The NGO also thanked Senapati SP Karthik Malladi and Karong Senapati Town committee for providing vehicles for the plantation drive.
