Family members, locals claim bodies of Romario, Noren

Imphal, June 04 2023:
Family members of Khoirom Romario alias Rio, son of Kh Hemba of Langthabal Mantrikhong Mayai Leikai, who was killed in an armed attack by Kuki militants in Sugnu-Se-rou area of Kakching district on May 28, along with local people claimed his body from JNIMS mortuary on Sunday.
The locals also took out a proces-sion carrying the mortal remains of the youth through Ayangpalli Road-Thangapat Mapal-Thumbuthong-Singjamei Road till his native village.
People along the route paid tributes to the slain youth by forming human chain and showering flowers.
A me-morial service was held at the local community hall where local people offered floral tributes followed by a two-minute silence.
From there, the body was taken to Serou where anoth-er memorial service was conducted before being brought for cremation at Langthabal Konung Palli Lampak.
According to one Khumbongma-yum Indrajit, Romario was left behind after being hit by a bullet fired by Kuki militants when the Meetei residents of the area fled the scene.
The injury marks on his body suggest that the Kuki militants tortured him inhu-manely before killing him.
Meanwhile, locals paid honour and accorded him the status of a martyr for fighting for the unity and territo-rial integrity of Manipur.
His sacrifice has inspired many to come forward and fight for a united Manipur, he added.
Meanwhile, the body of Laithang-barn Noren, son of late Labango of Sagolband Nepra Menjor Leikai, who was killed in firing by Kuki mil-itants on June 2 at Phayeng, has been claimed by his family on Sunday and cremated at his native place.
Late Noren was not only a Tae-kwondo player but also national ref-eree.
Residents of Sagolband Nepra Menjor Leikai and nearby localities gave highest honour and fitting tribute to Noren when his body was brought home.
Large numbers of people also formed a huge human chain and paid floral tributes to Noren.
