Provide free treatment : Joykisan to Pvt hospitals
Source: The Sangai Express

Imphal, June 04 2023: Thangmeiband AC MLA Kh Joykisan has appealed to all Government and private hospitals to provide medical treatment to all those who have been injured in the present crisis free of cost.

Speaking to reporters at his residence at Khoyathong, MLA Kh Joykisan said the violence that first broke out on May 3 has not ended even after a month with many killed and injured in clashes and attacks by Kuki militants.

Youths and people of all ages have volunteered to stand guard in villages and they have been injured in their efforts to protect the land and State's integrity at large.

Their sacrifices should be acknowledged and they should be provided medical treatment free of cost at all hospitals, said Joykisan.

He added that he is sending a letter to the Government urging it to provide free of cost medical treatment to the injured at all Government hospitals.

Separate letters have been sent to Raj Medicity and Sky Hospital located under Thangmeiband AC requesting the institutions to waive off all charges and provide treatment free of cost to all injured, Joykisan said, adding the institutions are expected to give a reply within three days time.

The MLA, meanwhile, announced that he will bear the costs of treatment of all persons belonging to Thangmeiband AC who have been injured.

In case any person from his Constituency has undergone/completed treatment, he will reimburse the cost of the treatment to the family concerned, Joykisan.

He then urged all the other MLAs to take a similar stand and announce that they will also bear the costs of the treatment of all injured persons in their respective Constituencies.

The people, especially the youths have volunteered to protect people, villages and the State's integrity.

They shouldn't be abandoned and left on their own.

They and their families should not be given the additional burden of treating the injured on their own.

They should be provided all possible help and they should be given the best treatment free of all costs, Joykisan said.

Like the MLAs of the 20 hill Constituencies are given Local Area Development Fund of Rs 1 crore each, the MLAs of the valley Constituencies may be given Rs 50 lakh each for use in providing relief to affected people and treatment of injured persons, said Joykisan appealing to the Government and stressing that the displaced people can't be kept in the camps for long.

As the situation demands, it is time to hold a Secret Session of the Assembly to discuss the present issues following the Rules and Procedure and Conduct of Business, he said.

On rumours fuelling the violence, Joykisan said people should not believe in unverified reports and rumours and act rashly.

Targeted rumours of all sorts have been spread to promote enmity and hate among different communities.

This is unfortunate, he said, encouraging and acknowledging the efforts being put in by civil society organisations to restore normalcy and peace.

While a Government inquiry committee is to bring out the cause of the violence, the cause and what had fuelled the present violence are well known to all and is out in the open, said Joykisan.

While sharing the pain and grief of the affected displaced people, Joykisan said he had recently visited relief camps at Kumbi and heard their grievances.

As Kuki militants and their supporters attacked and burnt down hundreds of houses, the innocent villagers had to flee and abandon their homes and villages.

All their hopes and dreams have been shattered and burnt to ashes.

Many of the families have children staying outside Manipur pursuing further studies.

Let alone send money to the children staying outside, the families now do not have money to support themselves.

They are clinging on to the little hope they have that they may be able to return to their roots once again and rebuild their home, said Joykisan.

As long as there exists tension and mistrust among the people of the communities, people cannot return to their homes.

The displaced people want the Government to devise a policy that would bring a lasting solution and promote peaceful coexistence of all the people, said Joykisan.

He also relayed the message of the displaced people that the Meiteis in Kumbi are the victims of attacks carried out by Kuki militants and they were on the defensive since the beginning of the conflict.
