Sangeet Natak Akademi award winners announced

The General Council of Sangeet Natak Akademi, the National Academy of Music, Dance and Drama, New Delhi, at its meeting held from November 6 to 8 in New Delhi unanimously elected 10 eminent personalities in the field of performing arts as Akademi Fellows along with selecting 128 artistes from the field of music, dance, theatre, traditional/folk/tribal music/dance/theatre, puppetry and overall contribution/scholarship in the performing arts for presenting the Sangeet Natak Akademi Awards (Akademi Puraskar) for the years 2019, 2020 and 2021 .
Of the artistes selected for the prestigious awards winner of Akademi PuraSkar-2020 N Irabot Singh (Nata Sankirtana) for music, Arambam Tombinou Devi (Music for Dance) for dance and N Jadumani Singh (Stage Design) for theatre.
Sruti Bandopadhay was also selected for the award for Manipuri Dance.
Similarly, selectees for the Akademi Puraskar 2021 include Thokchom Ibemubi Devi (Manipuri Dance) and N Tiken Singh (Folk Music).
The Akademi Fellow carries a purse money of Rs 3,00,000 and the Akademi Award Rs 1,00,000, besides a Tamrapatra and Angavastram.
Meanwhile, Sangeet Natak Akademi has also announced one-time Sangeet Natak Akademi Amrit Award under Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav (AKAM) commemorating 75 years of India's independence to 86 artists which include four from the state.
The state awardees are Y Jatra Singh for Nata Sankirtana, Ng Salmon for Tribal Music/Dance, Hijam Tombi Singh for Manipuri Dance/Overall contribution/scholarship in Performing Arts and H Bishwaroop Singh for Thang-Ta.
The Sangeet Natak Akademi Amrit Award carries a purse money of Rs 1,00,000, along with a Tamrapatra and Angavastram.
On the other hand, Sangeet Natak Akademi has announced the name of 102 artistes of India for the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar for the years 2019, 2020 and 2021 with 19 artistes from North-Eastern states among those selected.
Five artistes from the state have also been chosen for Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar which is given to artistes below the age of 40 years.
Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar 2019 will be awarded to Okram Jelen Singh (Manipuri Dance) for dance, Hajarimayum Roji Devi (Playwriting) for theatre and Shaikhom Surchandra Singh (Pung Making) for Other Traditional/Folk/Tribal Dance/ Music/Theatre and Puppetry.
In case of Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar 2020, Khagembam Khoni (Manipuri Dance) for dance and Athokom Santosh Singh (Shumang Leela) for theatre have been selected.
The Puraskar carries purse money of Rs 25,000 .
The Yuva Puraskar will be presented at a special ceremony by the chairman of Sangeet Natak Akademi.
