Legal awareness on social welfare schemes held

A one day awareness programme on government's social welfare schemes cum sensitisation on Tele Law legal service was held at the Multipurpose hall of Mini secretariat complex, here on Friday.
The programme organised by District Legal Services Authority, Chandel in collaboration with Chandel district administration was a part of Integrated Delivery of Legal Services (IDLS-DISHA Scheme) being jointly implemented by Department of Justice (DoJ) & National Legal Services Authority (NALSA).
Speaking on the occasion, Chakpikarong SDO Chirom Somorendro Singh acknowledged that many people who are in real need of these government welfare schemes are not getting the benefits due to lack of awareness.
He asked the village heads and the village authorities to help in creating awareness amongst the villagers and also appealed to the SDOs of other districts for the same.
Addressing the gathering, Tengnoupal CWC member secretary Darngam Khal-ing deliberated on special welfare schemes for women and children apart from interacting with the village for better understanding of scheme-related issues and grievances.
Chandel DLSA retainer lawyer Jacky Lucy introduced the concept of Tele Law Legal Services and explained in detail about the services and its benefits.
She said these services had been in practice for some years now in other parts of the country, but it has been reintroduced in Manipur recently.
She also urged the people to create awareness about tele law legal services so that people in need can take advantage of the same.
The programme was attended by the village heads of the district, DLOs and other stake holders.
The programme ended by proposing a vote of thanks by the SDC Chandel Mothel Saka.
