CADA continues sit-in against liquor policy

Imphal, February 03 2023:
Continuing to oppose the state cabinet's decision to legalise liquor in the state, Coalition Against Drugs & Alcohol (CADA), All Manipur Women's Social Reformation & Development Sa-maj (Nupi Samaj) and Sanasabi Khunai Kanba Lup jointly organised a sit-in protest at Sanasabi ground, Imphal East district on Thursday.
In a release, CADA secretary general Geetchandra Mangang conveyed that the protestors raised slogans demanding revoking of government order and to save the people of the state from ills of liquor.
One of the protestors, Nupi Samaj secretary general P Sobita questioned the government's decision to legalise liquor saying it will only worsen the ill effects of alcohol abuse in the state.
She pointed out that it is the women who face the brunt of issues caused by liquor abuse as it is the major factor behind crime against women and children.
She also wondered how the government plans to control the problems through legalisation of liquor, while warning that the order should be revoked im mediately in order to avoid creation of unwanted situation.
