Three-centuries-old temple vandalised

Imphal, February 03 2023:
The Shri Krishna Temple located at Brahmapur Guru-Aribam Bamon Leikai under Porompat PS was found vandalised by unknown miscreants on Friday morning.
On receiving news of the vandalism, a team of Imphal East District Police arrived and conducted preliminary investigation.
The vandalism was discovered when the devotees were preparing to offer the morning prayers.
Meanwhile, the caretaker of the temple has denounced the vandalism of the temple, which has been in existence since 1697.The temple is also recognised as a historical monument by Manipur Archaeology Department.
The caretaker then urged the authority concerned to apprehend the person(s) responsible for the vandalism and award them befitting punishment.
Manipur Legislative Assembly speaker and Yaiskul AC MLA Th Satyabrata also visited the temple after hearing news of the incident and assured of extending all possible in this regard.
The place of worship is protected under the Manipur Ancient and Historical Monuments and Archeological Sites and Remains Act, 1976."Locks on two iron doors in the place of worship were broken and the idol was desecrated on Thursday night, " a police officer said.
