Thoubal, February 03 2023:
Continuing its movement for inclusion of Meitei Pangal in the ST, Meitei Pangal Scheduled Tribe Demand Committee staged sit-in demonstration at Yairipok Tulihal on Friday.
Speaking on the sidelines of the protest, Tulihal Idiqah Youth Development Organisation president Abdul Malik Meraimayum urged the government led by CM N Biren to include the underdeveloped Meitei Pangal community in the ST list so as to promote equality and an egalitarian society.
It is known that the demand for inclusion of Meitei Pangal in the ST list is rightful and moreover, it would be better if the demand for inclusion in the ST list is pursued by joining hands with the majority Meetei community.
Yet, there is still time for joining hands and the two communities have been living harmoniously not only in the state but also at different places.
Abdul Malik expressed hope that the government will surely recommend inclusion of Meitei Pangal in the ST list if Meetei/Meitei is included in the list as the demand is for upliftment of underdeveloped Meitei Pangal and to save the endangering community.
He conveyed that all clubs and organisations in Yairipok Tulihal supported the demand of MPSTDC and will take part in any movement launched by the committee to fulfill the demand.
Placards inscribed 'Table inclusion of Meitei Pangal in ST list in assembly session', 'Send recommendation for inclusion of Meitei Pangal in ST list' and 'Neglecting Meitei Pangal will not be accepted', etc., were used during the demonstration.
