Imphal, May 11 2021:
Nine non-locals and six vegetables vendors were detained by a team of Imphal police station for violating Covid-19 SOPs, gambling and breaking the curfew from various parts of the city on Tuesday.
At about 3 pm Tuesday, personnel of Imphal police station led by its OC inspector N Ingocha Singh raided a building at Nagamapal Kangjabi Leirak which is used as rented accommodations, during which nine non-local people were rounded up for gambling in a room.
The same team also detained six vendors selling vegetables at Moirangkhom and Keishamthong Elangbam Leikai along with seizing an auto rickshaw used for transporting them on the charge of violating curfew order and Covid-19 guidelines on Tuesday.
All the detainees were taken to Imphal police station and kept there for some time before they were released after levying fines.
Speaking in this connection, inspector Ingocha urged the public to follow the curfew orders and do not violate the restriction imposed for containing Covid by giving excuses as this will endanger not only their own lives but also of others.
He also appealed to people to follow the SOPs while withdrawing money from ATM and called upon landlords to ensure that people living in their rent do not intermingle with each other as it may spread the disease if anyone of them is infected.
He also confided that there are many who take a roundabout trying to avoid police pickets to venture out during the curfew.
They must realise that if public do not become more responsible the pandemic will continue to surge.
