Imphal, June 01 2023:
Meiteis are not de-manding for any quota or special rights but are fighting for their very existence and survival in their own land, asserted Manipur Interna-tional Youth Centre (MIYC).
Addressing media persons at Manipur Press Club here on Thursday, MIYC coordinator N Karan said that a mem-orandum highlighting the issues, problems, political concerns, expectations and demands for survival has been submitted to Union Home minister Amit Shah through the chief minister N Biren on Wednesday.
He further informed that in the memorandum, MIYC demanded abrogation of SoO as the ethnic violence between two communities has now turned into a bat-tle between the armed Kuki militants under SoO and the Meitei community.
Under such a condition, the people are demanding that the SoO be abrogated at the earliest, he noted.
Since there has been no statement or decision made by Amit Shah in this regard, the home minister should issue a written commitment that no bullets will be fired on the Meitei villagers, Kuki mil-itants will follow SoO ground rules, arms and ammunition of SoO Kuki militants will be kept in the custody of a military camp, Kuki SoO des-ignated camps be cordoned by a military unit, he said.
N Karan further pointed out that if the government ignores sentiment of peo-ple living in the valley and the hills and succumbs to pressure exerted by the Kuki militants, it is could be safely stated that the BJP govern-ment is at its last stage and will subsequently affect in electoral prospects in other states.
