Imphal, June 01 2023:
Even as incidents of skirmishes are reported from the foothill areas on daily basis, Meira Paibi Lup in different parts of the valley area along with their respec-tive local clubs organised different forms of protest demanding restoration of peace, termination of So0 agreement and opposing separate administration and allegation raised against Ar-ambai Tenggol.
On Wednesday night, Meira Paibi groups in as-sociation with local clubs of Meitram Awang Leikai, Meitram Makha Leikai, Ko-dompokpi Maning Leikai, Kodompokpi Mayai Leikai, Kodompokpi Lamkhai and Lairenjam organised protest by forming human chain and holding the symbolic Meira (torch) of Meira Paibi from Meitram to Kodompokpi Lamkhai.
Protestors shouted slogans demanding restoration of peace and normalcy, dis-arming Kuki militants and terminating Suspension of Operation (SoO) agreement, flushing out armed militants from across the border, pro-tecting vulnerable villages located in the foothills and ordering high level judicial enquiry to find out the in-stigators of the communal crisis the state is experienc-ing for the past one month.
Uripok Sorbon Thingel and Gopalji Leirak Apunba Nupi Lup organised a sit-in protest at Golpalji Leirak Machin on Thursday.
Inter-acting with media, protes-tors said that they do not want violence but peace, and demanded the government to stop the unprovoked at-tacks on peripheral villages by armed militants.
They also demanded termina-tion of So0 agreement with Kuki militants and accused Union home minister Amit Shah of being one-sided.
They strongly denounced the union home minister for announcing relief items separately for hills and val-ley, even though he assured to uphold the integrity of the state.
Decrying the Kuki organi-sations for their involvement in spreading lies and fabri-cating stories to suit their narrative while demonis-ing Meetei community and youth bodies like Arambai Tenggol, the protestors said that they cannot accept the allegation levelled against Arambai Tenggol, which is just an organisation of youths with the objective to promote indigenous religion of Meetei community.
Universe Club, Langthabal Kunja Awang Leikai in asso-ciation with Canchi Leihao Meira Paibi and Women's Development Association organised a sit-in protest at the local community hall located at the club premises on Thursday.
The protes-tors demanded NRC update, withdrawal of Assam Rifles, So0 termination, clear stand of 50 MLAs, while oppos-ing separate administration and allegation on Arambai Tenggol.
