Imphal, June 01 2023:
Shiv Sena Manipur Unit president M Tombi has accused union home minister Amit Shah of ignoring the people's wishes for withdrawal of Suspension of Operation (SoO) and seizure of arms from So0 groups.
In a press meet held at the party's office at Babupara here on Thursday, Tombi said that the union home minister's act of ignoring the people's demand for withdrawing So0 and sei-zure of arms from So0 groups, deployment of national highway protection forces along nation-al highways, implementation of MLRL Act and NRC across Manipur, is unfortunate for the people of the state.
He continued that around 30 MPs are from Shiv Sena, one of whom is also a union minister.
As such, the party will take up Manipur's issue in the parliament.
The state unit will soon meet party leader and Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde in Mumbai and submit a mem-orandum in this regard, while also emphasising the impor-tance of withdrawing So0 and seizing arms from the involved groups so as to restore peace in Manipur.
Tombi further observed that central and state governments seem to be digressing from the solution preferred by the peo-ple.
Although the union home minister's visit and activities during his stay in the state is appreciated, the firing and vio-lence in villages adjacent to hilly areas continues unabated, some with fatalities.
As the minister failed to live up to the expecta-tion of the people, his assurance to visit the state after 10 days is not that welcoming.
"The present situation is basically a proxy war.
The armed militants in the hills wearing lungi are all Burmese.
The Chin-Kuki groups who are waging drugs war while heavily armed should be made to return to their homes in Myanmar and border fencing should be taken up.
Amid this, Assam Rifles has also failed to maintain its neu-trality.
Thus, it is up to each of us to protect our ancestral land and protect our language, culture, identity and history spanning thousands of years, instead of being driven away from our own land like refugees," he said.
Tombi further said that now is not the time to demand for the CM's resignation, adding that it is time to help him take firm decisions.
