Girl students injured in police crack down

Some girl students were injured in police crack down on a group of stu-dents who were staging a pro- test demonstration at the gate of Cheirap Court complex deman-ding exemplary punishment against the two individuals accused of raping a student of TG Higher Secondary School.
Film actor Tarun and commando personnel William who were accused of raping a TG School student were produced at Cheirap Court today.
On learning that Tarun and William would be produced before the Court today, a large number of students from GP Women's College, TG Hi-gher Secondary School, CC Higher Secondary School and Johnstone Higher Secondary and a number of women activists gathered at the gate of the court complex and staged a protest demonstration.
They also shouted a num-ber of slogans.
Police tried to drive away the agitating students fearing that they may disturb Court proceeding but it resulted in a stand off between the two sides.

Soon after, male police personnel resorted to baton charging even as lady police personnel were also present causing injuries to some girl students.
The injured students were taken to JNIMS.
District and Session Judge, Manipur East before whom the two accused were produced scheduled the next hearing on November 6 .
Strongly condening the police crack down on students, AMSU secretary gene- ral L Regan questioned whe-ther the Government was supporting crimes against women and gender discrimination.
Speaking to media persons at their office this evening, Regan urged the Government to take up effective measures to in order to check all kinds of crimes against women at the earliest.
He also decried that the victim's mother was not allowed entry within the Court complex by police.
Notably, the TG School student was allegedly raped by Tarun and William inside a restaurant at Ghari on October 20 last year.
Subsequently, they were pulled up and they are currently lodged in judicial custody.
