Imphal, October 26 2013 :
All Tribal Students' Union, Manipur (ATSUM) has lashed out at the MPs from Manipur for maintaining silence on the border issue.
It then said that seeing the way the border fencing issue is being handled by the state government, the student body is disturbed to the extent of saying that Government of Manipur is shedding crocodile tears.
According to ATSUM, it is a rare spectacular convergence of different political parties, communities and civil bodies worth calling the name in Manipur coming out strongly against the policy of the present border fencing.
"Who are we up against with anyway?," it asked.
"If it is to the Centre Government that we are demanding, what is the concrete answer to register the ongoing opposition against the border fencing issue by the concerned authority?," the tribal student body further questioned.
"We have never heard of our MPs raising these issues in the parliament nor tangible initiatives being taken in this regard at any level.
ATSUM, therefore, demands to know from the government, both the state and the Centre the clear policy of these actions," ATSUM stated.
Recalling the history, ATSUM said the people of Manipur are aware that Maharaja Gambir Singh died of heart attack on 9th January 1834, the day Maj.
Grant and Captain Pemberton handed over Tummu, Khampat, Surjail and other villages in the Kabaw valley, the Ungoching Hills, and the strip of valley running between the eastern foot and western bank of the Ningtha Khyaengtun following the so called negotiation at Ningthee(Chinwin) .
"A Maring Hill range was fixed as the boundary without the knowledge and consent of the people to appease Burmese King.
We have been talking about not ceding an inch of our lands, maintaining the territorial integrity of the state," the tribal student body pointed out.
ATSUM then threatened to resume its second phase of its democratic agitation code name ROTO (Reckoning of the Other) to help 'vaporize the dark political climate that is already gathering above us' .
